Climate Denying GOP Mega-Donor: Climate Change Theory Same As Flat Earth Theory

Just on the off chance that you still think Donald Trump and his team deserve a chance, you have to listen to this.

“It’s called ignorance,” said Chris Cuomo on CNN. He was speaking to Trump advisor Anthony Scaramucci. “The Mooch”, as he is known among his Wall Street buddies, is one of the millionaires who has donated his way onto Trump’s transition team.

So Cuomo and Scaramucci were engaged in a discussion of climate change. Cuomo asked Scaramucci why the incoming administration wanted the names of all Energy Department employees who had been working on, or learning about, climate change.

This prompted Scaramucci to launch into a rambling, almost Trump-like explanation of his position on climate change.

Much like his boss, Scaramucci tried to simply string together loosely related sentences in order to make a meaningful statement.

Much like his boss, he failed to make sense.

In a moment that defies logic, Scaramucci first declared that scientists are not yet in agreement over the causes of global warming. When Cuomo pointed out to him that there is “overwhelming consensus” among the world’s scientist, Trump’s minion pivoted.

He stopped claiming that scientists disagree on climate change. Instead, his point was, “Who cares if they all agree?”

He said,

“Chris there was on overwhelming science that the earth was flat and there was an overwhelming science that we were the center of the universe.”

To his credit, Cuomo wasn’t having it. That was when he said, “It’s called ignorance.”

Cuomo wasn’t as specific as I might have been if I’d been unlucky enough to have been in that room.

I would have pointed out that it was Aristotle, in about 330 B.C., who put the flat earth theory to rest. And Copernicus in the 16th Century who proved that we aren’t the center of the universe.

Of course, if Mr. Scaramucci’s point was that the Trump administration possesses the scientific sophistication of a thousand years ago, a lot of us would have to agree.
