Celebrate Our Last Holiday Season With The Obamas In The White House (TWEETS/VIDEO)

The Obamas have sent out their last holiday card from the White House, and they are stunning. Sasha and Malia look so grown up. They have been a wonderful first family; they will be missed.

The photo was taken at a state dinner earlier this year; it makes a great holiday card. Republicans may get mad because it says “Happy Holidays,” but I love to see the First Family being inclusive.

The inside of the card reads:

“As our family reflects on our many happy years spent in the White House, we are grateful for the friends we’ve made, the joy we’ve shared, and the gifts of kindness we’ve received. We wish you and your loved ones a joyous holiday season and a wonderful new year.”

Michelle Obama has helped with the amazing decorations in the White House. These streamers are one example; they can be seen in the East Colonnade.

Also, the first dogs, Bo and Sunny, have been immortalized as adorable decorations:

This is not the first time that the Obamas’ dogs have appeared in the decorations at the White House. Bo appeared on their holiday card in 2011:

In keeping with tradition, the Obamas accepted veterans into the White House to preview the decorations. There are plenty of American flag displays, gold star ornaments, and even camo-laden nutcracker ornaments.

History Of Holiday Celebrations At The White House

The tradition of the first family sending holiday cards dates back to the 1920s when Calvin Coolidge sent them. Coolidge also held the first tree lighting ceremony. The first event in 1923 was called the “Pageant of Peace.”

Herbert Hoover was sending out holiday greetings from the official residence in the 1930s.

In 1937, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt started sending out more stylized holiday cards. When Harry Truman occupied the White House in the 1950s, they sent out two sizes of holiday cards.

Just last week the First Lady welcomed her last Christmas tree into the White House:
