Ohio Heartbeat Bill The Most Extreme Anti-Abortion Bill In The US (VIDEO)

Since the Republicans won the presidency and control of Congress, the pro-lifers are likely going to keep trying to chip away at a woman’s right to choose.

The Ohio state Senate has passed a bill that would ban abortions after the fetus has a heartbeat, which usually happens four to six weeks into the pregnancy.

Senate President Keith Faber (R-Celina) said:

“A new president, new Supreme Court appointees change the dynamic, and there was consensus in our caucus to move forward.”

Unfortunately, this is not the first time Ohio has considered a heartbeat bill. Two years ago, state Senator Jim Buchy (R-Ohio) tried to push for that bill, and it didn’t get anywhere.

I guess they feel emboldened after the Donald Trump’s election and with a Republican Congress. They are hoping that Trump will support pro-life Supreme Court Justices.

Ohio Democratic Women’s Caucus Chair Kathy DiCristofaro said:

“… This bill — which was tacked on as a last-minute amendment to a child abuse prevention bill — makes no exceptions for rape or incest victims. It is cruel and plainly unconstitutional — but it seems like Ohio Republicans don’t care about the Constitution. Trump’s vision for America is already alive and well in the Buckeye State.”

Ohio Governor John Kasich has not taken a stance on this bill yet. It will only become law if Kasich signs it, which is an on-the-fence decision. Gov. Kasich previously expressed misgivings at the potential unconstitutionality of the bill.

Various state and federal Supreme Courts have routinely striken abortion restrictions as unconstitutional that limit a woman’s right to choose before the fetus reaches the viability stage of 24 weeks gestation.

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Ohio has said that they will challenge the bill if it is passed.

Ohio state Sen. Charleta Tavares, a Columbus Democrat, said:

“I believe everyone has a right to their own body. We allowed a good bill that protects the health and safety of our children to be bastardized into a government takeover of women’s wombs.”

Since many women don’t even find out they’re pregnant until they are at least six weeks along, the so-called heartbeat bill could severely limit a woman’s right to choose by removing the ability to choose entirely, an act that was ruled unconstitutional in Roe V Wade itself.
