Trevor Noah Makes A Great Point About America Being ‘Divided’

South African comedian Trevor Noah took over Comedy Central’s The Daily Show from Jon Stewart in 2015. Noah is doing a great job with it. His updates on the election were on point and hilarious.

In an essay for the New York Times, Noah talked about growing up in South Africa during apartheid. He talked about the division that existed then and the division we have here in America. Our two-party system has everyone divided.

Noah had this to say while reflecting on the events of the last year:

“The past year has been so polarizing and noxious that even I find myself getting caught up in the extreme grandstanding and vitriol. But with extremes come deadlock and the death of progress. Instead of speaking in measured tones about what unites us, we are screaming at each other about what divides us – which is exactly what authoritarian figures like Mr Trump want: divided people are easier to rule. That was, after all, the whole point of apartheid.”

He points out how many Americans see the issues as black and white. Either you are for Black people and against cops, or you are for cops and against Black people. It doesn’t need to be so divided.

Trump’s win has just “amplified the voices” of extremism. I’m sure we will be dealing with plenty of extremism from the right over the next four years.

Last week, Trevor interviewed conservative news YouTuber Tomi Lahren. She couldn’t even answer his questions surrounding the Black Lives Matter movement. This was my favorite episode of the whole year with Trevor Noah. He really did a great job eviscerating Lahren, and calling her on “her shit.”

Hopefully, Trevor will keep fighting the “war against bullshit” with us. We need voices like him calling out the stupidity of RWNJs.
