More Advertisers Join Kellogg’s, Pull Ads From Hate Site Breitbart

Last week, cereal giant Kellogg’s pulled their ads from Breitbart, the far right, neo-Nazi loving hate news site, which left the site’s editor-in-chief, Alexander Marlow, to declare:

“To blacklist Breitbart News in order to placate left-wing totalitarians is a disgraceful act of cowardice.”

Breitbart got so peeved that they urged their readers to boycott Kellogg’s and refuse to buy any of their products.

But the news just got much worse for the folks at Breitbart with the announcement that in addition to Kellogg’s, Vanguard, 3M, and AARP will also refuse to pay for ads on the site.

Can you say mass exodus?

Vanguard, for one, said they pulled their ads the minute they discovered they were running on Breitbart, with a spokesperson commenting:

“As a policy, Vanguard does not advertise on any overtly political websites, including the site in question. Our remarketing advertisements are limited to pre-approved sites (again, no political sites), however it was brought to our attention last week that this site was inadvertently included.”

Others are also taking direct aim at Breitbart. The anti-Trump campaign #GrabYourWallet added to so-called “alt-right” website it to its own boycott list on Thursday. #GrabYourWallet was created by Sue Atencio and Shannon Coulter as a way to express revulsion over Trump’s bragging about sexually assaulting women during an interview with Access Hollywood.

While Breitbart may not immediately feel a financial pinch from the companies refusing to advertise on their platform, it could lead other advertisers to follow suit, which could hamstring the site as it attempts to grow and expand its reach. Former Breitbart CEO Steve Bannon was recently announced as chief counselor to President-elect Donald Trump, but that association may wind up hurting the site more than helping it.

Wouldn’t it be nice to see Breitbart struggling to survive a couple of years from now? No doubt they’d blame it on liberals and progressives who tried to silence them. But they have no one to blame but their own hateful selves.
