Jon Stewart: To Fight Trump, ‘F*cking Buckle Your Seat Belt And Get Ready’

How wonderful would it be to have Jon Stewart back at the Daily Show with Donald Trump about to enter the White House? It would be epic.

And while Stewart won’t be returning to his old desk on Comedy Central, he did have plenty to say at his most recent TimesTalks appearance in New York City.

Stewart began by saying he doesn’t believe all Trump supporters are racist:

“Not everybody that voted for Trump is a racist. I don’t give a f*ck what any of you say to me. You can yell it at me, you can tweet it at me. They’re not all racists. Or they’re not giving tacit support to a racist system…We all give tacit support to exploitative systems as long as they don’t affect us that badly.”

Then Stewart turned his incisive wit to the President-elect:

“His selection for Secretary of State will be David Petraeus, who pled guilty to mishandling classified material. He said (Hillary Clinton) was unqualified because she gave a speech to Goldman Sachs. His Secretary of the Treasury is somebody from Goldman Sachs. We’re in post-accountability.”

And the comedian said the only thing that can possibly change America for the better in the Age of Trump is activism:

“If [Trump] tries to deport dreamers, then that’s where everyone has to go, to protect them. If he tries to make a Muslim registry, then everyone has to go there and help them. You have to find the people that are going be most in jeopardy, I think, and put your attentions on them because now it’s about reality.”

The battle cry for the resistance to what we see and want to change when it comes to Trump is simple, Stewart noted:

“F*cking buckle your seat belt and get ready. And I think the key for us is to be like, who needs a ride?”

We can hope Jon Stewart will continue to speak out in the months ahead. God knows we need his voice now more than we ever have.
