Priebus Confirms Trump Thinks Climate Change Is ‘A Bunch Of Bunk’ (VIDEO)

Last week in an interview with the New York Times, President-elect Donald Trump admitted that there is “some connectivity” between climate change and human activity. However, his new chief of staff, Republican National Committee Chair Reince Priebus, said in an interview with Fox News on Sunday that Trump will:

“…Have an open mind about [climate change] but his default position, which most of it is a bunch of bunk, but he’ll have an open mind and listen to people.”

Given that Trump has previously referred to climate change as “bullshit” and “an expensive hoax,” it would probably be foolish to believe that his mind will be open to anything other than his own climate-denying delusions.

His inability to exhibit critical thinking was perfectly exemplified during the Times interview when he said:

“You know the hottest day ever was in 1890-something, 98. You know, you can make lots of cases for different views. I have a totally open mind.”

Just saying that you have “a totally open mind” doesn’t automatically make you a wonderful listener who can see both sides of any issue. The fact that Trump would cite a completely nonsensical statistic about “the hottest day ever” shows that he not only doesn’t understand climate change, but he doesn’t understand the difference between weather and climate.

You can’t make any scientific argument with a sample size of one, nor can you say that a hot day over a century ago has any bearing on the overwhelming evidence supporting the human impact on climate change we’re seeing today.

Trump also seems to think that the scientific community is split 50/50 on this issue, saying:

“There are few things where there’s more division than climate change.”

I can think of many, many things that are more divisive than the climate change debate. When 97% of scientific research supports the idea that humans are causing climate change, it can’t be said that this issue has any semblance of a “division.”

But it seems like division will be a theme of the Trump presidency. Division of rational, thoughtful Americans from those that voted for this buffoon. Division of races as Trump singles out anyone he deems to be an outsider in this country. And most of all, division of Trump’s ideas and policies from any sort of reality.
