25th Amendment May Give Us A Constitutional Solution For Our Trump Problem (VIDEO)

Since President-elect Donald Trump was declared the winner, there have been widespread protests. Many of us are looking for a way to oust the Mango Monstrosity way before the 2020 election.

There have been talks of impeaching Trump, but there is another possibility: the 25th Amendment. Not only does this amendment outline the succession to the presidency, but also mentions what would happen if the president were unfit to serve. It would require:

“… Written declaration that he is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, and until he transmits to them a written declaration to the contrary, such powers and duties shall be discharged by the Vice-President as Acting President.”

This Amendment was written after John F. Kennedy was assassinated in 1963. It officially said that the vice-president takes over if the president dies, resigns, or is unfit to stay in office. This is the first mention of being able to remove a president from office if they are unable to serve.

Trump would have to write some kind of note saying he is unfit to serve. We know he won’t do that. So, how else can we get him out of office?

The 25th Amendment gives two options for removing a president who is unable to serve. These methods are used when the president is mentally unfit for office and either they can’t or won’t step down.

First, a majority of the president’s cabinet and the vice-president could vote on whether or not the president is unfit to serve.

The second option would involve a vote of the vice-president and the majority of the House and Senate. This option is possible because there are many Republicans who don’t support Trump.

It may seem like a long shot, but it could work. GQ correspondent Keith Olbermann said:

“For my money, he’s nuts — couldn’t pass a sanity test, open book. But of course, Section Four of the 25th Amendment here does not say ‘nuts’ — or impaired, or erratic or unbalanced or unhealthy or bipolar or narcissist or sociopath or psychopath. It only says ‘that the president is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office.'”

Donald Trump has spent the last year-and-a-half proving to us that he is unfit to be POTUS. He has said many racist, Islamophobic, xenophobic, or just plain bigoted things. He is in favor of war crimes. He makes fun of people with disabilities. I hope we can use this amendment to our advantage.
