Mark Hamill: Trump’s Team Has A Lot Of ‘Really Despicable People’ (TWEET)

We’ve all rolled our eyes and shaken our heads in the last few weeks as Donald Trump has rolled out the members of his team. Well, we’re not the only ones. Actor Mark Hamill, best known for playing Luke Skywalker, has watched these appointments with alarm as well. He’s just as scared as we are.

In a phone interview promoting “Pop Culture Quest,” his new podcast at Comic-Con HQ, Hamill said he was in “total denial” about the election’s aftermath. He then let loose about Trump’s appointments.

“I’m glad I have [the show] to take my mind off what’s going on. Because if you look at what’s being assembled for our government it’s like, yikes. It’s a who’s-who of really despicable people.”

It’s hard not to agree when you look at the additions to Trump’s team. There’s his chief strategist, Steve Bannon, a guy with unmistakable ties to white nationalists, white supremacists, and far-right elements inside and outside America. He also has a history of domestic violence. Indeed, his past is so dicey that there is some question about whether he would qualify for a security clearance under normal conditions.

There’s his national security adviser, Michael Flynn. He was pushed out as head of the Defense Information Agency in part because of an abrasive management style and a tendency to play fast and loose with facts. He’s also a raving Islamophobe.

And there’s his pick for attorney general, Jeff Sessions. Even if he has recanted his past borderline racist sentiments, this is still a man who actually thinks groping women isn’t sexual assault. This is still a man who voted against making waterboarding and torture illegal.

There are some who may think Hamill’s rant is yet another example of the supposed liberal smugness that birthed Trump in the first place. But when you look at that list, no one can credibly call Hamill smug. After all, calling this bunch “despicable” is being extremely kind to it. And apparently most Republican national security professionals feel the same way. Trump is having a hard time filling his national security and intelligence team because most people worth getting want nothing to do with him.

As I write this, Trump hasn’t said anything about this on Twitter. Considering that Trump blows up at the tiniest perceived slight, I wondered if he knows Hamill has him busted. Equally telling, Trump’s favorite news site, Breitbart–or rather, Trumpbart–only had this to say on Twitter.

But then again, they’d have no business to attack Hamill in any event. After all, if calling a spade a spade is being smug, there’s something very wrong. Bravo, Mark.
