CNN Host Calls BS On GOP Congressman Equating Alt-Right With Black Lives Matter

Don’t you just love how Republicans try to find a way to normalize even the most heinous behavior when it’s done by one of their extremist brethren on the far right? They seem to think they can wink at neo-Nazis and KKK members as they court their votes, then pretend they don’t support such groups when asked about their affiliation.

On CNN Tuesday, Wisconsin GOP Congressman Sean Duffy was confronted by host Jim Sciutto about why exactly it had taken so long for President-elect Donald Trump to condemn and disavow a white supremacist group of alt-right jackasses led by Richard Spencer who met in Washington over the weekend and gave the raised arm salute which was popular in Nazi Germany. Duffy attempted to make a false equivalency by responding:

“He did condemn them and that’s a good thing. My concern is that Barack Obama, when he had a chance, didn’t condemn the riots across America that were in protest of Donald Trump’s victory in the election or didn’t condemn Black Lives Matter.”

Sciutto smelled bullshit and called Duffy out for the comparison:

“You’re equating Americans protesting a politician with outright the and bigotry from a group that was using the Hitler salute to celebrate Donald Trump’s victory and are nothing more than white supremacists? That’s not a fair comparison.”

Duffy had to try and bail water fast as his boat was sinking:

“No, no, no. Both are disgusting, for different ways.”

Once more, Sciutto asked:

“You’re putting them on equal footing? You’re putting political protests on a footing with white supremacists?”

Sensing he was about to lose total control of the interview, Duffy stammered:

“Let me explain to you, let me explain. I don’t equate one group with the other. I’m just giving an example of two groups who should be condemned.”

So you did in fact just lump the two groups together, Congressman Duffy, and there’s a world of difference between the two.

There is no way to normalize or excuse the behavior of neo-Nazis in this country who say the United States should be exclusively for whites. They are disgusting stains on our nation and must be condemned no matter what they call themselves.
