A Family Affair? Trump’s Attempts At Nepotism Come With Heavy Price Tags

As President-elect Donald Trump hastily makes decisions regarding his presidential cabinet, he is attempting to make some questionable moves which include bringing members of his family to the White House.

It’s A Family Affair

Although nepotism isn’t allowed in the White House, Trump and his team are finding ways around it. Creating a loophole to curtail the law, Trump is pushing to have his son-in-law, Jared Kushner, on staff as a top advisor, on a volunteer consultant basis.

As an unpaid member of his team, the nepotism law would not apply. The problem, even with Kushner on staff on a volunteer basis, is that it creates a $2.7 billion dollar conflict of interest. Jared’s brother, Josh Kushner, is a founder of Oscar, the healthcare startup that sells health insurance to uninsured.

What This Means

In Trump’s promise to dissolve Obamacare, the overhaul would probably get some input from Josh Kushner via his brother, Jared. Currently, Oscar is losing millions of dollars. Having even the slightest part in creating a new health care reform for America, would be self-serving, and particularly a conflict of interest.

Oscar’s Exit from Obamacare

Oscar sold insurance through the Obamacare platform and recently announced its departure.  With estimated losses reaching over 45 million dollars in 2016, Oscar is looking for a lifeline and Trump is it. What a thin line to tread.

The Saga Continues

In addition to Josh Kushner having a massive conflict of interest, Peter Thiel, who is on Trump’s presidential transition team, has one as well. Peter is a venture capitalist with an investment in Oscar.

It looks like Trump is following his footsteps of his famous television series The Apprentice. Trump, by creating teams to run the White House with his children as appointed overseers. Many in America want Trump to understand this is not reality TV, nor did America elect the Trump family to guide the country.
