President-elect Donald Trump ran on many platforms, one of which included a tracking system for all Muslims. However that’s been done before by another administration.
And it didn’t work.

After the terrorist attacks on 9/11, the George W. Bush administration wanted to keep track of non-citizens with visas. They created the National Security Entry-Exit Registration, which monitored and often interrogated visitors.
While they claimed it was for anyone visiting the country, it largely targeted Arabs and Muslims.
President Barack Obama’s administration removed all 25 countries from the list, but the program is still available for Trump to use. He notoriously called for a ban on all new Muslims entering the country, and to track any that are currently here.
He also criticized President Obama for not using the terms Radical Islam, and Radical Islamic Terrorism.
Not one terrorist attack was stopped because of the registry. In fact, it lead to the realization that most terrorist attacks on U.S. soil are committed by U.S. citizens.
Backlash
Trump’s determination to monitor all Muslims has received a strong backlash from many of whom have vowed to register as one even if they’re not. They believe it will lead to the unfair discrimination of law-abiding Muslims.
If Trump creates a Muslim registry I will register Muslim.

A recent interview by Carl Higbie, a Trump supporter, even compared the use of Japanese internment camps in World War II. He pointed out our country has created registries based in the past:
“We’ve done it based on race, we’ve done it based on religion, we’ve done it based on region.”
If reinstated, the NSEER could cause law enforcement to target innocent Muslims. The U.S. is known for allowing people of all religions to practice their faith without government persecution. Not only has this system failed to yield any results in the past, it also goes against what we stand for.
