Amal Clooney Warns Of Trump’s ‘Violations Of International Human Rights’

Amal Clooney, International Human Rights lawyer and wife of actor George Clooney, may have begun her speech at the Texas Women’s Conference by extending a line of peace to President-elect Donald Trump but she definitely ended it with a very classy way of saying screw you.

Mrs. Clooney as a woman and lawyer has been instrumental in the support of women who have been enslaved and trafficked by the Islamic State as part of the ongoing Yazidi genocide. Clooney started by stating:

“The president-elect has said that fighting ISIS is actually a priority … so it may be that there can be progress, and obviously, everyone has to respect the outcome of the democratic process here, and we have to hope for the best.”

However, those warm fuzzy sentiments lasted but a minute when Clooney then continued into her discussion of Trump’s dangerous and disgusting rhetoric of treatment of human beings in the future. The human rights lawyer said:

“[Trump’s comments] that there should be a religious test imposed on entering the U.S. or the fact that there should be state-sponsored torture or that families of suspected terrorists should all be killed — all of those things are violations of international human rights law and the values that underlie that.”

There is a serious fear, not just within the United States, but all over the world that Trump’s presidency will weaken this nation and it’s moral standings. Mrs. Clooney expresses her concerns of being contacted by international ally saying:

“I think there’s some concern from abroad as to are these things actually going to happen, or is the U.S. going to lose some of the moral standing that it has internationally.”

Her words rung true, not only to the women in the audience but to people across the globe. But she didn’t stop there. Clooney continued her speech by talking about the importance of gender rights and bringing forth our feminism.

“The worst thing that we can do as women is not stand up for each other, and this is something we can practice every day, no matter where we are and what we do — women sticking up for other women, choosing to protect and celebrate each other instead of competing or criticizing one another.”

To finish up, Mrs. Clooney could have done nothing more to give Trump the proverbial finger but to end her speech by quoting Mrs.Hillary Clinton.

“Women’s rights are human rights. Holding back women is holding back half of every country in the world.”

Let’s all take a moment to send Mrs. Clooney, a badass women and lawyer, our love and support.
