LEAKED: Trump Proves Yet Again That He’s Out Of His League In Message To PM Theresa Mays (VIDEO)

You could accurately summarize much of the past week’s news in a single sentence: President-elect Donald Trump has no idea what the hell he’s doing. It’s unclear whether he even fully comprehends what the role of president entails. And his transition team won’t be much help; none of them knew they had to hire a new West Wing policy staff.

But Trump’s latest international relations blunder tops it all as the most embarrassing news yet.

…You Should Let Me Know

British Prime Minister Theresa May called Trump last week to congratulate him and talk about maintaining a strong relationship between the U.S. and the U.K. But a leaked transcript of their 10-minute conversation reveals that Trump said something ridiculous and ignorant.

“If you travel to the US you should let me know.”

Let’s just be glad this was a phone call rather than a text conversation. Otherwise, Trump would surely have finished it off with a winky face emoji.

Downing Street’s original statement claimed that Trump had extended an invitation for May to visit the U.S. “as soon as possible” after his inauguration. But now spokespeople for the Prime Minister are not denying that his words were in fact far more casual.

A Special Relationship

Hey, if you’re ever in town you should let me know…”

That is something you send to a college hook-up buddy after a bad breakup. It should not be what one world leader says to another, particularly when right-wing populist movements like Brexit and the alt-right are making current international relationships seem less certain and predictable.

The Downing Street statement also said:

“The prime minister and President-elect Trump agreed that the US-UK relationship was very important and very special, and that building on this would be a priority for them both.”

Admittedly, Trump’s words do sound like he has a “special relationship” in mind. It just might not be the one that this phone call was supposed to confirm.

All jokes aside, Trump’s choice of words indicates that he is either unaware or indifferent about what it takes to prepare for a visit from a foreign leader.

As the Guardian notes:

“Overseas visits by the prime minister to the US cost hundreds of thousands of pounds and can take months to arrange.”

If the U.S. and the U.K. are to maintain strong international relations, Trump needs to start doing his homework and thinking about his words.
