Mike Huckabee Forced To Apologize For Claiming ‘Jewish Liberals’ Painted Swastika

Mike Huckabee, like so many conservatives, just loves to go off half-cocked before he has all the facts and make declarative statements that have no basis in fact. And his latest is one hell of a misfire.

Back in March, two students at Northwestern University were charged with spray painting Alice Miller Chapel on the Northwestern campus with anti-black, anti-Muslim, anti-Semitic and anti-gay graffiti. But because he didn’t bother to verify the source of a story posted in the Conservative Tribune, Huckabee thought the hate crime was part of the recent wave of mostly peaceful protests against the election of Donald Trump. Furious, Huckabee went on Facebook and posted this now-deleted message:

“Everything You Know Is Wrong Dept: Liberals went ballistic after someone defaced the chapel at Northwestern University in Chicago, using spray paint to deface photos of Muslim students, draw swastikas and write slurs against blacks and gays, and of course, the name ‘Trump.’ Can you believe what those evil, racist, homophobic, Islamophobic deplorables who support Trump did?!”

While he was at it, Huckabee also claimed the students arrested and expelled for the crime were “liberal, Jewish.” But they weren’t, and since the incident took place in March, the former Arkansas Governor had to issue an apology when the New York Daily News called him out in print. Huckabee again took to Facebook and wrote:

“[The Daily News] accused me of spreading false information and hatred, and demanded an apology. And they’re right, I do owe readers an apology. Due to a posting error, the story was actually from last March, but it appeared to be a new story.  I didn’t remember the original story and assumed it was new. For that mistake, I sincerely apologize. But the facts of the story were otherwise accurate.”

Conservatives and right wingers are fond of false news and outright lies. They accept what Fox News tells them as fact and believe the lies spewed out on websites such as the Drudge Report and Breitbart. No wonder they’re all so factually-challenged and gullible. And no wonder they support a fact-free con man like President-elect Trump.
