After rumors had swirled for quite some time hinting at this pick, CNBC is now reporting that President-elect Donald Trump has chosen Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn to be his National Security Advisor.
Flynn Advocates ‘Closer Ties With Russia’
Flynn, like Trump, is in favor of the United States and Russia having a closer, more cordial relationship. According to the Washington Post:
“Flynn acknowledged being paid to give a speech and attend a lavish anniversary party for the Kremlin-controlled RT television network in Moscow last year, where he was seated next to Russian President Vladimir Putin.”
Flynn Led Chants Of ‘Lock Her Up’
When he spoke at the Republican National Convention, Flynn led the crowd in chants of “Lock her up!” — one of the signature chants of the Trump supporters.
As reported by Politico:
“Before millions of television viewers, Flynn led the chants of a raucous crowd during his speech endorsing Donald Trump. ‘Lock her up! Lock her up! Damn right! Exactly right!’ Flynn encouraged the chanting crowd. ‘There is nothing wrong with that!'”
Actually, there’s quite a bit wrong with that. For one, despite decades of investigations, she’s never been convicted of anything. We don’t just lock people up because we don’t like them.
Yet.
Admiral Mike Mullen (ret.), former Joint Chiefs of Staff chairman, wrote of Flynn:
“This is not about the right to speak out, it is about the disappointing lack of judgment in doing so for crass partisan purposes. This is made worse by using hyperbolic language all the while leveraging the respected title of ‘general.'”
This appointment marks yet another frightening turn of events in the now-forming Trump cabinet. First a white supremacist as his right-hand man, now a powder keg of a general as National Security Advisor.
