Trump Just Reallyyyy Upset Anti-Gay Supporters With This Statement (VIDEO)

You never really know what’s going to come out of Donald Trump’s mouth next. If nothing else, his presidential campaign and the days following have provided dark entertainment for Americans who can’t look away from the political train wreck, waiting to see what happens next. His remarks are often confusing to liberals, progressives, and others of sound mind. But a recent statement about gay marriage rights has Americans across the political spectrum scratching their heads.

In an interview with 60 Minutes, Trump was asked about his stance on gay marriage. He responded,

“It’s irrelevant because it was already settled. It’s law. It was settled in the Supreme Court. I mean it’s done … these cases have gone to the Supreme Court. They’ve been settled. And– I th– I’m– I’m fine with that.”

The statement could spark outrage among Trump supporters who are against gay marriage rights — including Trump’s vice president, Indiana governor Mike Pence.

Pence Is Fiercely Opposed to Gay Rights

Pence has made a number of statements that leave no question about his own stance on the topic of gay rights:

“Let us say ‘yes’ very humbly today to the marriage as traditionally defined. Let us say ‘no’ to activist courts trying to redefine it.”

“[The Employment Non-Discrimination Act] wages war on freedom of religion in the workplace.”

Pence has also been outspoken about his idea that homosexuality is something that can and should be treated:

“Congress should support the reauthorization of the Ryan White Care Act only after completion of an audit to ensure that federal dollars were no longer being given to organizations that celebrate and encourage the types of behaviors that facilitate the spreading of the HIV virus. Resources should be directed toward those institutions which provide assistance to those seeking to change their sexual behavior.”

On allowing openly gay citizens to serve in the military, Pence said,

“We ought not to use the American military as a backdrop for social experimentation…”

We’re a long way from trusting anything Donald Trump says, but if he’s really on board with gay marriage rights, we have to wonder: what the hell was he thinking, choosing Mike Pence as a running mate? If Trump stays true to his word, it looks like there could be trouble for this otherwise happy couple. As for the rest of Trump’s supporters, let’s hope this statement helps more of them get on board with the idea of gay marriage rights.
