The Trump Effect – ‘A Nation Divided Against Itself Cannot Stand’

The Pledge of Allegiance signifies that America is on a united forefront. Standing:

“…One nation, under God, with liberty and justice for all.”

America the melting pot is:

The land of the free, the home of the brave.”

Except, that America went blank on Election Day 2016, and may no longer be one nation, undivided, but instead, two nations under God.

And The Winner Is…

The journey to Election Day for presidential hopefuls Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump was contentious and brutal. Political analysts predicted a tight race but one that Hillary Clinton would win.

Tuesday night people in America and across the world were tuned in via social media, the internet and television screens, waiting and watching for the results, which seemingly updated every few seconds. The flip-flop scenario of which candidate had a quick lead, as polls across the U.S. begin to report numbers, were nail-biting.

As the night progressed, even when the numbers seemed to favor Trump, the predictions remained the same.

Although Clinton was trailing behind in some states, the confidence still loomed with an expectation that she would recover as more of the reporting came in. As the night grew darker, so did the outcome of the election.

Donald Trump was winning, and many Americans were beginning to feel bamboozled.

As the results poured in, the stock market dropped immensely, and the hearts of some people right along with it.

To Dream the Impossible Dream

Just eight years earlier, America made history when it elected its first African-American president, making what seemed impossible – possible.

History was repeating itself this Election Day, but not in a good way.

The impossible thought of what many considered a man defunct of morals and values, lacking reasonable judgment and missing a concrete plan to lead the nation was realized as possible when Donald Trump was declared the projected winner of the election; a different impossible was made possible.

While the millions of people and the clear majority that voted him in were ecstatic, others in America went from feeling crushed to blank.

Social media posts went from encouraging to sentiments of despair and doom.

After questioning how it happened, trying to make rhyme and reason, many felt a loss; there were no words to describe what happened, how it happened, or what happens next. The need to find an understanding dissipated, and America went blank.

Just an empty feeling. A blank slate.

America changed on Tuesday, only time will tell if that change will have a positive or negative impact. The one nation united under God took on a different meaning in one day, a new definition of divisiveness, racism, and separatism.

No longer is America one Nation under God.
