WATCH: Al Franken Promises To Give Comey The ‘Hillary Treatment’

Just over a week before the November 8 election, FBI director James Comey sent a letter to Congress saying his agents were investigating emails found on disgraced former Congressman Anthony Weiner’s laptop that might be tied to Clinton. Following the media firestorm and barrage of criticism from both sides of the aisle questioning the motive and timing of the letter, Comey sent another letter yesterday.

It stated that the investigation turned up nothing:

“Based on our review, we have not changed our conclusions that we expressed in July with respect to Secretary Clinton.”

Good news for the Clinton campaign, although cutting it awfully close to Election Day, aren’t we, Director Comey?

Democratic Minnesota Senator and Judiciary Committee member Al Franken seems to think so.

In an interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper on Sunday, Franken called on the Committee to hold hearings on James Comey’s handling of the email investigation:

“I think that there should be hearings, and I’m certain there will be hearings in the Judiciary Committee on this matter.”

Franken expressed his concerns on the timing of the FBI’s reopening of the case. He also said that he had misgivings over who and how Director Comey and the FBI handled the investigation in the first place:

“Even more troubling is what we’ve heard from sort of the rogue elements of the FBI seemingly tipping off former (New York City) Mayor (Rudy) Giuliani that something was up. I mean, it just seems like — that’s not the FBI.”

In other words, something smells fishy. And if James Comey was hoping all of this was going to fade into the background after the election is over, he would be wrong.

“We will have hearings. I’m sure that FBI Director Comey will be before us. I think he should be able to answer questions about this, and he should be able to control the FBI.”
