I’m not at all sure when the word “conservative” came to mean “gun toting Minuteman wannabe”, but the comparison seems apt right now.
The Huffington Post is sharing a story about a terrifying militia group, huddled deep in the backwoods of Georgia. The militia members calls themselves “The Three Percent Security Force.” The name comes from the questionable idea that approximately three percent of the Colonial population participated directly in the American Revolution.
These people, nearly all men, see themselves as walking in the footsteps of the Sons of Liberty. They gather deep in the woods to practice hand to hand combat and target shooting with their rifles.
They believe that they are getting ready to defend the country against an authoritarian attack by an Obama inspired government. They claim that they are the first line of defense against an out of control government that means to take away their guns.
They seem to be unaware of the fact that in his eight years in office, the President has not made a single attempt at disarming them.
The Southern Poverty Law Center, a group that tracks extremist groups on both sides of the political spectrum, says that the number of extremist militias has increased nearly eight fold since 2008.
The “Three Percent” group is unofficially linked to other right-wing militia groups across the United States. They are also unofficially linked to the conservative campaign of Republican Presidential Candidate Donald Trump.
As the “Three Percent” militia group gathered in the backwoods of Georgia, one member who calls himself “Bloodagent” called out to the members, “How many people are voting for Donald Trump? Ooh-Rah!” He used the Marine battle cry of “ooh, rah” to energize his troops.
At least a dozen voices called back in agreement, “ooh-rah!”
When asked about their positions, these militia members echoed the thoughts of other conservative militia groups. They said that they have every intention of protecting “their” country (sic) from an election that Donald Trump has convinced them will be “rigged” and “stolen.”
Most of these militia members believe that the election will be dishonest. They believe that the Democrats intend to take away their guns, their religious freedom, their right to express their views in national elections.
They see themselves as the protectors of the American Democracy.
Donald Trump has convinced these delusional people that they must defend themselves and their families from a tyrannical government. He has tapped into the deepest fears and most macho dreams of these white men.
Trump has called on groups like the super-conservative Oath Keepers to monitor polling places. He has given these unofficial para-military groups his approval to create chaos if he loses the election.
“Bloodagent” described his intentions for post-election, should his candidate lose. He said:
“This is the last chance to save America from ruin. I’m surprised I was able to survive or suffer through eight years of Obama without literally going insane, but Hillary is going to be more of the same.”
In a more frightening comment, he talked about how he would react if his candidate loses. He said:
“I will be there to render assistance to my fellow countrymen, and prevent them from being disarmed, and I will fight and I will kill and I may die in the process.”
So there you go. Donald Trump has tapped into the worst irrational, delusional fantasies of white men with guns. They are preparing themselves to respond to a “rigged” election. They are willing to die, and more importantly, they are willing to kill if their guy loses.
Call me a crazy history buff, but I am not sure that the real Minutemen would have died or killed for a lying, adulterous, selfish, ignorant bigot.
