So much for Donald Trump staying on message and letting the FBI bombshell which landed in the Clinton camp help him improve his poll numbers. Instead, the GOP nominee has again resorted to hyperbole and blatant lying as the campaign draws to a close.
At a rally in Albuquerque, New Mexico last night, Trump declared that Hillary Clinton would allow 650 million immigrants to enter the United States if elected President:
“You know, it would be much easier working for Obama or working for Crooked Hillary [than Trump], because frankly, when you’re working for Hillary she wants to let people just pour in.
“You could have 650 million people pour in and we do nothing about it. Think of it, that’s what could happen. You triple the size of our country in one week.”
As per his usual, Trump offered no evidence of his claim. But he did try to act as if he wanted immigrants to come to America, telling the crowd:
“We want people to come into our country! Just so you know, I want people to come in.”
It should be noted that while Hillary Clinton has said she supports comprehensive immigration reform, at no time has she said she welcomes hundreds of millions of new immigrants coming to the United States.
While the news which broke Friday about the FBI looking at emails found on a computer belonging to former New York Congressman Anthony Weiner have indeed been a distraction for the Clinton campaign, updated models for the election such as FiveThirtyEight’s still have Clinton winning by a large margin. Nate Silver currently shows Clinton with a 77.3 percent chance of winning with 315 electoral votes to only 221 for Trump. 270 electoral votes are needed to secure a victory.
Also, with a week left to go, there’s no telling what other crazy crap Trump will say or tweet at three in the morning that will help seal his fate.
