Inside The GOP’s 20-Year Mission To Destroy American Politics (VIDEO)

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump is not alone when it comes to undermining the integrity of the political system – the entire GOP has been hell-bent on destroying trust in the system for decades, according to Robert Reich.

There’s proof of this disdain from as far back as 1995, after Newt Gingrich took over as speaker of the house, with the GOP appropriating a more oppressive form of dealing with politics, completely working around normal legislative maneuvering.

Now threats and record-breaking use of the filibuster has almost become the norm.

The Truth Is In the Receipts

There is proof of the GOP pursuing policies to the very limit, compromising the reputation of the party and the trust that the American people have in their political system. Just like Trump, Gingrich used racist whistle blowing when debating about welfare reform in 1996, with the trend continuing throughout 2010 when he catapulted the birther movement against President Barack Obama by saying that he showcased “Kenyan anti-colonial behavior.”

This brinkmanship goes beyond Gingrich, with Senator John McCain (R-Ariz.), warning that the Republican-majority Senate will unite against Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton if she becomes president.

Norman Einstein, a political scientist and scholar of the American Enterprise Institute, effectively sums up the presence of the GOP – the crass behavior of Gingrich “destroyed whatever comity” that might’ve existed across political parties, with the Republican Party becoming scornful and dismissive.

Democratic Party Has Contributed To The Problem

The Democratic Party is sometimes deemed as the good guys of American politics, as it is a party that spotlights civil rights, the liberties, and the validity of the downtrodden, and a progressive platform that is inclusive.

However, the Democratic National Committee has been rocked by scandal this election cycle, with chairwoman Debbie Wasserman-Schultz actively using her leverage to work against others in the DNC.

Now that the distrust for American politics has flourished, half-baked conspiracies have the ability to take hold and spread. What do you think can restore public trust in our institutions?
