Legal Expert: Donald Trump’s Threatened Lawsuit Against His Accusers Is ‘Basically Hopeless’ (VIDEO)

Donald Trump turned a lot of heads on Saturday when he threatened to file a massive lawsuit against the many women who have accused him of sexually assaulting them. Watch for yourself here.

But according to veteran family law attorney Elura Nanos, Trump is wasting his breath. She thinks that if Trump does go through with his planned lawsuit, it will go absolutely nowhere fast.

In an article for LawNewz, Nanos suggests that Trump’s latest legal threat is a natural outgrowth of his threat to sue The New York Times for reporting that two women had accused Trump of assaulting them. After all, it would make little sense to sue the Old Grey Lady for libel and not sue the accusers for slander.

That being said, Nanos thinks that a lawsuit “just wouldn’t work.” As of Sunday night, 11 women had accused Trump of assaulting them. According to Nanos, Trump would have to file 11 separate lawsuits “in several different jurisdictions, with different factual bases, and different sets of pleadings.”

From where Nanos is sitting, Trump doesn’t have a prayer in either of these lawsuits. The burden of proof would be on Trump to prove that these women are lying–a burden that would be all but impossible for the Donald to meet.

“Proving anything by clear and convincing evidence is pretty difficult. But proving that something didn’t happen is basically hopeless.”

Additionally, Trump would have to provide “objective proof” that his accusers are lying, but no such proof exists. But that’s not the only thing that could derail a lawsuit filed by a man whom Nanos charitably describes as “an immature, litigious, privileged egomaniac.” Trump would not only have to prove that his accusers cooked up their claims out of cloth, but that these supposedly false claims wrecked his reputation.

From where Nanos is sitting, that notion is “so laughable as to almost defy discussion.” Indeed, Trump only has himself to blame for any damage his reputation suffered in this affair. After all, as The Times’ general counsel, David McCraw, pointed out, Trump has “bragged” on numerous occasions about making unwelcome advances to women.

All things considered, Nanos thinks this threatened lawsuit is so patently frivolous that any lawyer who files such a suit would not only “put his or her own professional reputation on the line,” but would almost certainly face sanctions from the judge. Additionally, Nanos thinks it would be a blatant violation of ethical guidelines.

But then again, such little things as ethics and basic decency never stopped Trump before. So maybe, just maybe, Trump will finally get what he deserves in court.
