WATCH: Trump Surrogate Blames Rally Violence On Black Victims

I can’t imagine more challenging job in the world right now than being a surrogate for Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.

Isn’t that fabulous?

In yet another campaign gaffe, Trump apologist Scottie Nell Hughes was caught putting her foot in her mouth on national television.

The frustrated Trump supporter was appearing on CNN’s Erin Burnett Out Front. The host brought up the fact that Trump regularly whips up the anger of the people at his rallies. In particular, she pointed out, he consistently uses language that demonizes the media and pits the public against them. Burnett said:

“This is a big part of his rallies every time. Chanting ‘CNN sucks’ and yelling out that the media are horrible and disgusting people.”

Hughes came back with the oft repeated and never substantiated claim that it is Democratic operatives who incite the violence at the rallies.

CNN’s Van Jones jumped in at that point and said:

“Black people have been beaten up at your rallies.”

Here’s the foot in the mouth part. Or perhaps we could say that this is the part where Trump supporters’ true feelings come out. Hughes retorted back:

“And why have they been?”

Clearly then, Scottie Nell Hughes, spokesperson for the Trump campaign is blaming black victims for being beaten at Trump rallies. I’m sure she thinks that the black man who was sucker punched by a white Trump supporter was to blame for his own injuries.

The interview went on with Burnett pushing Hughes to explain if she seriously believed that the Democratic Party was sending in people to attack Black protesters at the rallies.

Like her boss, Hughes was unable to think before speaking. She snapped:

“You look at the Chicago rallies that happened, and the violence that happened at the Chicago rallies and now you have this group.”

First of all, there was only one Chicago rally. It was shut down by a group of highly organized University of Illinois Chicago students. The rally was held on their campus, and they wanted to make sure that Trump and his supporters knew that their racism and hatred were not welcome there. They managed to stop the rally when the Trump campaign and Chicago police cited safety concerns.

This happened in March. Donald Trump went on Twitter to blame Bernie Sanders for the shutdown.

Scottie Nell Hughes has as much trouble with the facts as her leader.
