What Wall? Back In 2013, Trump Wanted To ‘Leave Borders Behind’ For ‘Cohesive Global Economy’

Republican presidential nominee, Donald Trump, the champion for no free trade and closed borders during this election season had a “leave borders behind for a cohesive global economy” kind of outlook just three short years ago.

In an op-ed written by Trump and published by CNN in 2013, Trump talked about how Europe was one of the best places to increase and pursue global business. Speaking about the recession of 2008, Trump stated:

“The global economy has become truly that–global.”

Trump went on to talk about how all nations and cultures were intertwined with each other and that it was necessary to “work with each other for the benefit of all.” He wrote:

“My concern is that the negligence of a few will adversely affect the majority. In this case, the solution is clear. We will have to leave borders behind and go for global unity when it comes to financial stability.”

Trump went on to discuss free trade and the state of the global economy. His piece ended by stating:

“All of us must work together toward that very significant common goal.”

These statements, as we have seen, are a vast one-eighty from where his current political platform sits. Trump has pushed for closed borders and self sufficient America, cutting off trade and employment to other countries around the world.

And though he has publicly demeaned his competition, Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, for calling for the borderless hemisphere, his comments just three short years ago aligned tightly with that of Clinton’s business platform. He even now compares Great Britain’s exit from the European Union with the rise of his political career, juxtaposing his own personal beliefs in 2013.

Though many people through time have jumped from party to party in the political world, Donald Trump’s views are so different than those he held several years ago it is hard to believe that he actually stands behind his words, instead of leading us to believe he talks for votes rather than policy.

Something Trump has yet to figure out is that sometimes you have to stand for what is correct instead of being led blindly by a political organization more worried about keeping seats in the Senate than looking out for the citizens of this country.

Unfortunately for Trump, backing extreme racial and sexist policies that bring the hate out of people who follow him, only pushes the Oval Office further and further from his grasps.
