Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has said that he won’t accept the results if he doesn’t win. This is not the kind of person we need to be our president.
That is a completely undignified way to handle the election. Trump is like a child who isn’t getting his way. Even in little league games, we expect our kids to shake hands after they lose a game. What kind of example would Trump set if he didn’t concede? Yes, he wants to win, but sometimes we don’t get what we want. That’s life. We need to be able to move on. In this case, we will stop an apocalypse. Other Republican presidents have not whined this much about losing an election.
Senator John McCain (R-Ariz), who ran for president against Barack Obama in the 2008 election, said that a concession is an act of “respect” for the American people. Conceding shows that you trust the will of the people.
We need a mature and civilized leader.
Former President George H.W. Bush handed the presidency to Bill Clinton with a wonderful note.
This shows how an election should work. A civilized person should be able to admit when they have lost. Donald Trump would make us look horrible if he actually contested the whole election. He should be able to be a big boy and lose gracefully.
