Trump Vows To Accept Election Results ‘If I Win’ (VIDEO)

This week, the presidential candidates faced off in the final presidential debate. Trump shocked the country when he implied that he won’t accept the election results if he loses. At the end of the debate, Trump was asked if he would contest the election. He said that he will “look at it at the time.”

CNN’s Van Jones said:

“What you just got now was the nominee of a major party, for the first time in our history, signaling to the American people that he has so little faith in our institutions … that he will not stand in front of his own country, in front of his own nation, and say that he respects the process and the outcome. That is an outrage!”

Trump actually said this at a rally yesterday:

“I would like to promise and pledge to all of my voters and supporters and to all of the people of the United States that I will totally accept the results of this great and historic presidential election if I win.”

Trump is claiming that he would actually challenge the results. He said he would accept a “clear result.”

His running mate, Indiana Governor Mike Pence, said this about Trump’s comments:

“As Donald Trump said earlier today in Ohio, of course we will accept a clear election result, but we also reserve the right to contest or file a legal challenge in the case of questionable results. We will follow and abide by the rules and traditions of many candidates who have gone before to uphold the integrity of the vote.”

How Would He Legally Challenge The Results?

If a candidate wants to contest the results, they won’t go to the federal level. Each state runs its own election, so the candidate would have to contest the state election at that level. Some states will do recounts if the results are very close.

The rules are contested and judged at the state level unless there are some blatant constitutional violations. This is extremely rare. Sadly, Trump could challenge it if he can find a good reason.
