Former House Speaker, John Boehner, in an interview with Vice, said that presidential candidate, Donald Trump was “barely a Republican.”
This admission is slightly different than at the beginning of the election season when Boehner somewhat endorsed Trump, helping to push delegates in the RNC to jump on the bandwagon too.
Boehner is not known to bite his tongue and has shown his outspoken nature in the past when calling Republican Senator Ted Cruz “Lucifer in the flesh,” and a “jackass.” Speaking about Cruz in an interview, Boehner stated:
“I have never worked with a more miserable son of a bitch in my life.”
During his interview with Vice, Boehner seemed a bit more relaxed and described Trump by saying:
“His ideas, when you can get to them, are frankly more in the direction that I would want the country to go to than Hillary Clinton. Donald wasn’t my first choice, wasn’t my second choice. For that matter, he wasn’t my third choice. But he’s the nominee, and I’m going to vote for him.”
He doesn’t quite seem like the hard and tense Boehner we came to know and loathe during his stay in politics, and talked about how he got along with everyone, including Hillary Clinton. However, his need to support his party’s choice is stronger than his convictions, and he will be casting his vote for Trump and hoping his “ideas” will come to fruition.
As a former active voice in the House, Boehner has always been extremely conservative, but he resigned in 2015 after Republicans accused him of failing to fight President Obama on the main conservative issues.
