We haven’t been talking about it much lately, but transgender people are still getting harassed at Target. Those hateful RWNJs haven’t gone away… unfortunately.
One Target customer witnessed a transgender woman being harassed recently. This man refused to keep his mouth shut and decided to help the transgender woman who was being verbally abused.
A witness, Michael, posted about the whole incident on Facebook. He said this in his post:
“Just witnessed an asshole trying to verbally shame a trans woman at Target… I say try because just as he started coming for her, myself and the other customers immediately shut him down and turned on him. This HUGE, BUFF, TATTOOED guy towers over the prick and says ‘apologize to her now.’ The douchebag replies, ‘to him you mean?’ The human mountain then turns to the lady and asks ‘Do you prefer male or female pronouns?’ She replied female. He turns back and says ‘apologize to the lady. While you can still speak.’ The guy apologized and skittered away, the human mountain guy gave the lady a big hug and left with his gf.”
The transgender hate was spreading back in the spring of this year. North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory passed the infamous HB-2, which forces transgender people to use the bathroom that corresponds to their birth gender, not their gender identity.
The Obama administration sent out letters to schools urging them to allow transgender students to use the bathroom they are comfortable with using.
More recently, the Minnesota Family Council started a campaign called, “Ask Me First.” They want the transgender people to ask them permission to use the bathroom
Many people were boycotting Target during the controversy because they said that they welcome transgender people in their store. Many transphobic Christian extremists went into Target stores just to harass transgender people or anyone else in Target. It’s just ridiculous.
