Donald Trump State Chairman: Trump Was Only Acting ‘As A Lot Of Guys Do’

We’ve heard a lot of deplorable attempts by Donald Trump loyalists to defend Trump’s horribly degrading and possibly criminal remarks about women in 2005. But one of the worst has to be from the chairman of his campaign in Virginia. Apparently he thinks that when Trump said those things, he was only acting like any other man would act in a similar situation.

Corey Stewart is the chairman of the board of supervisors in Prince William County, an outer suburb of Washington that surrounds Manassas. Since December, he has helmed the Trump campaign in Virginia. Trump tapped Stewart in part because they are both hardliners on immigration. He helped craft one of the first local laws in the nation that allowed law enforcement to check the immigration status of anyone they arrest. While it’s made him a bogeyman to Democrats, it’s buoyed his bid for governor in 2017.

Well, it turns out that Stewart shares another trait with Trump. They think acting like a boor and a jerk around women is just fine. Stewart told The Washington Post that he and other Trump supporters knew from the start that the Donald “wasn’t an angel.” He believes that Trump “can save the country,” and for that reason isn’t concerned about him acting “like a frat boy, as a lot of guys do.”

No, Corey. Trump wasn’t just acting like a frat boy. He was actually describing behavior that would add up to sexual assault. If you think that “a lot of guys” act like that, you’re even more delusional and deplorable than Trump.

Stewart then tried to draw a parallel between this situation and Bill Clinton’s behavior, saying that people still supported him because “they knew that that is of secondary importance.” But there’s one problem–Clinton actually expressed remorse for his actions. Trump hasn’t–at least not in a way that’s sincere. As late as Wednesday, he claimed that his degrading comments about women were merely entertainment. Seen in that light, no one should believe his claim that those 2005 comments don’t represent the real Trump.

Frankly, the thought that a guy who can even try to find a way to justify Trump’s despicable comments could even potentially be governor is downright sickening. And the fact he is in a position of leadership at any level is equally sickening. Hopefully Prince William County’s Democrats can find and fund someone to send him packing in 2019.

But it shouldn’t have to come to that. If Stewart has anything in him, he will give up his gubernatorial bid and resign as chairman of the board of supervisors. Respect for women is NOT optional–especially for those in office. Tell Stewart what you think on Facebook and on Twitter.
