The strongest sign that the wingnut fringe is already quaking in its boots at a Hillary Clinton victory? The conspiracy theories about the manifold horrors of a Hillary presidency are already making the rounds on right-wing talk radio. We got a sample of one on Tuesday, when a prominent religious right talk show host warned that a Donald Trump victory is the only thing standing in the way of conservatives being hauled away in the dead of night.

Like most of the religious right, American Family Radio, the radio arm of the American Family Association, has gone all-in for Trump. But we found out just how far they’re going on Tuesday morning from AFR morning host Sandy Rios. People for the American Way’s Right Wing Watch got a clip.

In a rare moment of honesty, Rios told her boss, AFA president Tim Wildmon, that barring a dramatic turnaround in the polls, Hillary is likely on her way to victory.

“If we, meaning Americans who love this country, prevail in this election, it will be nothing short of a miracle.”

Wildmon mused that it may very well be “the last chance” for social conservatives to prevail in the battle between “secular progressivism versus constitutional conservatism.” As Wildmon sees it, this election represents the religious right’s last shot to “stop these people from completely taking over our country.”

So far, standard religious right radio host fare. But then Rios really went off the deep end. She told Wildmon that those “who are conservative and believe in traditional marriage” and who “believe the life of the unborn should be defended” could potentially face the wrath of the IRS and FBI in the event Hillary wins. Indeed, Rios claimed, she and others in her circle believe that “we’re going to be in reeducation camps” if Hillary wins in November. Under current circumstances, it won’t be “a quantum leap” to suggest that conservatives could be arrested en masse unless Trump wins.

Well, that’s interesting. It wasn’t that long ago that Rios who was calling for someone to be essentially hauled off to jail. Back in August, Rios suggested that Gold Star dad Khizr Khan’s ringing denunciation of Trump’s Islamophobia raised questions about whether he was a true American. She even went as far as to suggest that Khizr only backed Hillary because he was a closet Islamist. Later, Rios argued that Khizr and his wife, Ghazala, were trying to hoodwink us into thinking Islam was really a peaceful religion.

From where I’m sitting, Rios would be perfectly fine with Khizr and Ghazala being packed off to some sort of “reeducation camp.” But the mere thought of a Hillary presidency has her quaking in her boots that she might not be free for much longer. Oh, that’s right–in the fundie world, only Christians have the right to claim they’re being persecuted.

An attempt to turn him into a member of the religious right in college only succeeded in turning him into the religious right's worst nightmare--a charismatic Christian who is an unapologetic liberal.
