Michael Moore has appeared on Meet the Press for the first time to give a warning about the election. The warning is Trump can win this thing. The current political mood is somewhat bizarre. It seems that there are many people feeling disgruntled with the whole political system and they are reacting in various ways. One reaction, Moore fears is by throwing Trump, as a “human molotov cocktail” at the whole political system.
The documentary maker and former Bernie supporter also said people don’t trust:
“the media, They don’t listen to it, and for good reason, because the, the media has let them down. The, the rich and the powerful have let them down. They used to believe in that. They used to vote for the rich and powerful. And a lot of them aren’t going to do that this time. And they, for some strange reason, see Donald Trump as their, as their means to get back at, at, at this system.”
Moore believes people also don’t trust:
” the Democrats. How else could a socialist win 22 states? I mean in my state of Michigan, Bernie Sanders won. If, if, if Hillary Clinton and the Democrats had a difficult time with him, that should have been the red flag to everybody that there is a, a, a mood out there where people are upset at the Democrats and the Republicans,”
Finally Moore frames the election, as a ‘lesser of two evils’ situation:
“What has to happen here, though, like with the Brexit vote in England, is that people, where I’m from, have to understand that, while they may not like Hillary that much or she may be a bitter pill to swallow or whatever, you better, you better take your medicine. Because the, the opposite is going to be much, much worse.”
Moore’s words seem to reflect how a lot of Americans are feeling in the lead up to this election. Feeling disillusioned with politicians, terrorism, scapegoating, all along with a 24 hour news cycle, it has created some pretty confused voters. Moore has previously predicted Trump is going to win the election, something he (and we at Liberal America) hopes he is wrong about.
