WATCH: Racist Idiot In Gorilla Mask Taunts Black Lives Matter Protesters

A racist fool decided to interrupt a peaceful Black Lives Matter protest on the campus of Eastern Tennessee University. On Wednesday afternoon, activists were holding a peaceful protest on campus when Tristan John Rettke, a freshman at the university, decided he could not deal with this nonviolent protest. He responded with a level of racism that is astounding.

As any sane person would, he decided to put on overalls, a confederate flag backpack, and a gorilla mask. He also bought bananas, wrapped string around them, and waved them in the face of the protesters.

Amazingly, Rettke was only arrested. He somehow avoided getting his teeth knocked out.

Rettke learned about the protest through social media app Yik Yak, and told police that his goal was to provoke the protesters. He is being charged with one count of civil rights intimidation.

After the incident occurred, ETSU President Dr. Brian Nolan condemned the racism of Rettke and praised the protesters for not taking the bait and who “rose above hatred.” He also called a gathering of students to meet so they could address the incident and begin the healing process. In addition, ETSU released the following statement through Facebook:

“Earlier today during a student-led Black Lives Matter event at Borchuck Plaza, our campus community was outraged by the behavior of one student who confronted the participants. The actions of this one individual go against the values of our university where people come first and all are treated with dignity and respect. We are exceptionally proud of the students who were peacefully participating in the event and the manner in which they exercised restraint, thoughtfulness and strength in the face of inappropriate and offensive behavior. The ETSU Department of Public Safety staff responded to the incident. At this time, criminal charges are pending before the local district attorney, and an internal student-conduct investigation has begun. Our university values diversity, inclusivity and respect for others. In keeping with those values, there will be an opportunity for community dialogue tonight at 7 p.m. inside the D.P. Culp Auditorium. University leadership will be present.”

Students were amazed at the level of disrespect Rettke showed them. His court date is set for November 9th. You can watch cell phone video of Rettke taunting the protesters below, via Timia Easley Junior and WJHL:
