Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton faced off against the Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump in the first presidential debate which aired on Monday. Following, Clinton’s epic performance, she received a surprising endorsement.
A right-leaning news outlet in Arizona, Arizona Republic, has endorsed Hillary Clinton for president. Since they did this, they have received death threats and are losing subscribers. They said in a statement:
“The Arizona Republic says it has received death threats and countless subscription cancellations over its endorsement of Hillary Clinton — the first time in the paper’s 126 year history it has ever supported a Democrat for president.”
“… We’re getting a lot of reaction both locally and national. I don’t believe true readers of the editorial page are surprised by this at all, because over the past year we have been writing scathing, scalding articles about Donald Trump.”
In its 120-year history, @azcentral has never endorsed a Democrat.

The news outlet cited Trump’s horrible behavior as the reason for not endorsing him. It is the first time they have not endorsed the Republican candidate in their entire 126-year tenure. His supporters just had to turn to intimidation instead of actually rethinking their support of their awful candidate.
When Clinton posted about the endorsement on Twitter it got 4,600 and 1,800 retweets. Surprisingly, Trump didn’t retaliate on Twitter.
When they endorsed her, the paper said:
“Clinton has the temperament and experience to be president. Donald Trump does not.”
“Clinton retains her composure under pressure. She’s tough. She doesn’t back down. Trump responds to criticism with the petulance of verbal spit wads. That’s beneath our national dignity.”
They also cited Trump’s sexism and objectification of women as another reason not to endorse Trump. The Arizona Republic also realizes that we need real solutions to immigration problems, not a stupid, expensive wall. They shouldn’t be receiving death threats for this; that is uncalled for.
