Trump Spokesperson Gets SCHOOLED By CBS Panel After Debate (VIDEO)

Katrina Pierson, spokesperson for Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, is hard to watch. Every time she makes an appearance, she comes across as someone who has simply memorized talking points. Her comments in last night’s post-debate appearance on CBS, though, brought her to a new low.

Spokesperson: ‘Trump Did A Fantastic Job’

I will concede that it is her job as a spokesperson to try to put a positive spin on an abysmal performance. Pierson led with her thoughts that Trump was “fantastic” in the debate, but things quickly went downhill from there.

For instance, immediately after saying that he “did a fantastic job,” she talked about how wonderful it was that he was able to “get up there on the national stage for the very first time,” as though he was a child at his first piano recital. Then, when asked why Trump kept referring to President Obama as “your president,” she resorted to “I wasn’t in his head,” after repeatedly dodging the question with talking points.

It was when the topic of conversation turned to racial issues and the unconstitutional “stop-and-frisk” policy that Trump supports, though, that things got really weird.

Pierson Blames Clinton For Stop-And-Frisk

The hosts pointed out Trump’s lie that the murders in New York City were declining because of stop-and-frisk. They also said that the policy is ineffective and unconstitutional. Pierson flailed, responding with:

“The FBI just released a report saying that it is true, in fact, by 10 percent.”

She tried to keep going but the host, dumbfounded by her statement, interrupted. Pierson quickly tried to amend her statement, saying, “Well, the crime rate…” The host shot back, “But he said murder.”

Pierson then tried to change the debate, saying Trump was “speaking specifically about Chicago,” even though Trump said, specifically, New York City.

After quite a bit of this moving-of-the-goalposts, Pierson first tried to make the case that stop-and-frisk is not a racist policy (hint: it is), but then she tried to say it IS sort of racist, but that it’s Clinton’s fault:

“It actually did work in New York, but we have to get down to why, because that’s why we’re here today. We have two candidates who have very different views. The reason why we have this problem, the reason why stop-and-frisk was implemented, was there were disparities with regard to who people were pulling over. And it’s profiling, criminal profiling, not necessarily racial profiling, even though it comes across that way. But the reason why we had it was that we had the First Lady of the United States who went out on the national stage and dehumanized young black children… this has been the conditioning of the American public where black children have been demonized, Hillary Clinton owns that.”

No, Ms. Pierson, it did not work in New York. And it’s a lie to say that it’s not racial profiling. It most certainly is. According to the New York Civil Liberties Union (emphasis theirs):

“An analysis by the NYCLU revealed that innocent New Yorkers have been subjected to police stops and street interrogations more than 5 million times since 2002, and that black and Latino communities continue to be the overwhelming target of these tactics. Nearly nine out of 10 stopped-and-frisked New Yorkers have been completely innocent, according to the NYPD’s own reports.”

So, there’s that. And yes, Clinton did say something over 20 years ago that she should not have said. But Trump is still saying racist things to this day.

Trump Supporters Don’t Care About Facts

I honestly cannot figure out why the Trump campaign keeps this woman on staff, especially in such a public position. Is it because she’s a pretty face to repeat talking points? She has no clue how to conduct herself in the face of real questions. She has shown her incompetence many, many, many times. It’s actually frightening to me — and a commentary on how media is consumed in this country — that she is still employed. The Trump campaign knows that people don’t care about facts. At one point in this segment, one of the hosts says:

“It didn’t work in New York and it didn’t work in Chicago. The tangible – I’m talking about empirical evidence here.”

Pierson cut her off with:

“There’s evidence that supports the other side, just like everything else.”

And that, right there, is the problem. Trump lives in his own reality, and his supporters are right there with him.
