Anyone who thinks Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump won last night’s debate either didn’t watch it or they’re delusional. The Donald showed nothing but complete ignorance. And CNN’s Jake Tapper couldn’t believe what he was seeing.
The Donald Took The Bait Like A ‘Rabid Wolf’
The post-debate coverage last night was unlike anything I’ve ever seen. Commentators could not make heads or tails of the debacle they witnessed. Those on the left giddily talked about how well Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton performed, while those on the right entered spin mode before The Donald even left the building.
CNN’s coverage was no different.
Jake Tapper became visibly agitated shortly into the coverage, calling Trump’s performance “unbelievable.” He went on to say:
“She would say something, just to dangle out like a piece of meat in front of a rabid wolf, and he would go for it EVERY SINGLE TIME, completely off message.”
Tapper went on to describe all the ways The Donald exhibited just how woefully unprepared he was to go up against Clinton:
“Even times he didn’t argue against going to war with Iraq! He did a Neil Cavuto interview, then he did this, then he did that. Then an article in two thousand — why are you doing this?”
I don’t know about Mr. Tapper, but I was honestly not surprised at all by Trump’s performance last night. Perhaps all the talking heads thought Trump’s people would succeed at coaching him for such an event, but I was not convinced. The Donald Trump we saw last night is the same one I was expecting — temperamental, unhinged, ignorant of policy, and completely wrapped up in himself.
Displaying braggadocio, if you will.
What Comes Next?
I do believe that Trump will likely perform much better in the next debate. If there is a rational brain cell in his head — and that’s a big if — he knows that he lost. Of course, there is also the possibility that his own ego will get in the way, as it so often does. I loved watching Clinton clean his clock last night, and would love to see it happen again.
