Someone From UK’s Royal Family Just Came Out Of The Closet! (VIDEO)

Coming out is always a notable event for anyone from the LGBT community. The apprehension of being accepted by your family and loved ones, the social stigma attached to it, the way society perceives you once you reveal your nature; the pressure is monumental, and rightfully so.

With this in mind, we can only imagine the joy and relief Lord Ivar Mountbatten felt when he finally came out as gay to the royal family and the world. Cousin to the Queen, the great-great-great-grandson of Queen Victoria and the great-nephew of Earl Mountbatten of Burma, Lord Ivar announced his orientation in an interview with his boyfriend, James Coyle.

Always flummoxed by his sexuality, Ivar questioned himself and his actions since his early teens and always considered himself to be a bisexual.” I was driven into the closet by not wanting to come to terms with who I was and facing friends and family in the early years. I buried it. I even had girlfriends as I tried to work out what I wanted to be,” he says, pondering over his past. Lord Ivar eventually married Penelope Thomson in 1994 with whom he had three daughters. Not the one to keep secrets, he disclosed his bisexuality to his wife who supported his life decisions.

Ultimately though, they drifted apart and eventually divorced in 2011. He met his boyfriend, James Coyle, this march during a skiing holiday in Switzerland, and sparks flew.

Fortunately for Lord Ivar, his three daughters and former wife have wholeheartedly accepted his significant other, and there’s joy abound.

While the LGBT community world over has enthusiastically embraced this news, it has also left everyone wondering about the Queen’s stance on it. While Queen Victoria hasn’t expressed her thoughts about Lord Ivar’s relationship, she has definitely made her position clear when she gave Royal assent to the Marriage (Same Sex Couples) Act in July 2013 and said:

“Well, who’d have thought 62 years ago when I came to the throne, I’d be signing something like this? Isn’t it wonderful?”

As beautiful as this moment may seem, it has definitely altered the course of history for being the very instance when a member of a royal family has openly embraced his sexuality and may prove to be the very thing needed for suppressed LGBT people seeking some faith in this world.
