Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump wants to roll back all of the progress President Barack Obama has made on the front of LGBT rights.
This week, the presidential hopeful said that he would sign the First Amendment Defense Act to take away rights from the LGBT community.
Trump said that it will prohibit the government from:
“… Action against a person, wholly or partially on the basis that such person believes or acts in accordance with a religious belief or moral conviction that marriage is or should be recognized as the union of one man and one woman, or that sexual relations are properly reserved to such a marriage.”
He continued:
“It is our first liberty and provides the most important protection in that it protects our right of conscience. Activist judges and executive orders issued by Presidents who have no regard for the Constitution have put these protections in jeopardy.”
“If I am elected president and Congress passes the First Amendment Defense Act, I will sign it to protect the deeply held religious beliefs of Catholics and the beliefs of Americans of all faiths.”
He may be getting his ideas from his running mate. Indiana Governor Mike Pence is no friend to women or the LGBT community. He passed his own “religious discrimination” act in his state, The Religious Freedom Restoration Act. It made discrimination against LGBT people legal.
More recently, it has been used to condone child abuse. A mother tried to use it to defend herself for abusing her child. Luckily, the judge struck it down.
Trump has tapped Rick Santorum to be his next religious adviser. Santorum has compared same-sex relationships to pedophilia. He has said this crap during his last three bids for the presidency. I guess he just isn’t learning how ignorant it is.
