BREAKING: New Jersey Legislators Seeking To Impeach Chris Christie

Chris Christie may soon be on his way out as Governor of New Jersey, according to sources who spoke to NBC4 in New York.

Key members of the New Jersey legislature are meeting to decide whether or not to draw up articles of impeachment against Christie for his involvement in the Bridgegate scandal.

The discussion of impeachment follows testimony in the trial of several people involved in the 2013 closure of the George Washington Bridge, which was allegedly done to punish a political opponent who refused to endorse Christie for re-election.

A committee chairman who spoke on the condition of anonymity told NBC4 “clearly obstruction of justice” would be one of the charges against Governor Christie.

How likely is it that the legislature would pursue impeachment? That same committee member said it was 50-50 at this point of the discussion.

The decision on impeachment is ultimately up to Democratic Speaker Vincent Prieto. Should he give the green light, the Assembly Judiciary Committee would then draw up charges and begin the process of removing Christie from office.

Christie is currently nearing the end of his second term in office. Christie, who also sought the GOP nomination for the White House, has been mentioned as a possible attorney general in a Trump administration.

However, in light of what is taking place in the New Jersey legislature, Christie may be far too busy trying to defend himself to accept any job offers.
