Americans Don’t Trust Mainstream Media Like They Used To… This Is Why (VIDEOS)

There is a good chance that you do not trust the mainstream media – actually, a Gallup poll shows that about 32 percent of Americans has distrust towards the mainstream media. This poll surveyed individuals from various demographics, political affiliations, and attitudes.

This poll didn’t target a specific form of media – the pool included television, newspapers, and the radio.

Republicans Are Running Away In Droves

According to the Gallup poll, only 14 percent of surveyed Republicans expressed trust for mainstream media, which is down by more than 50 percent from last year. Thirty percent of Independents and 51 percent of Democrats trust the mass media.

Interestingly enough, Democrats are the ones who mostly control mainstream media – but the trust slumped from a high of 55 percent in 2015.

America Is Changing – But The Typical Journalist Isn’t

Some may have disdain towards political pundits and reporters whom they may deem as “self-important.” There seems to be a disconnect, and the argument that the typical journalists in the United States simply do not look like the rest of America.

Political journalists are perceived as a bunch of haughty individuals who inhabit a different world from the everyday American.

A 2006 study by the Pew Research Center showed that the typical American journalist is a 41-year-old white male. An updated 2013 poll showed that the typical journalist has now increased in age to a 47-year-old white male across major forms of news publication, including TV and radio.

With a nation that is increasing with minorities, but with only about 22 percent of television journalism jobs being possessed by them, these 47-year-old white journalists may have a hard time courting certain viewers.

Small Sites Bridging The News Gap

Trust in the mainstream media is hemorrhaging, especially when trust was at a high of 72 percent in 1976 when investigative journalism was the norm – without the lies, hearsay, and blatant biases.

Independent, non-corporate websites and blogs are positioned to fill in the disconnect that the mainstream media created with the everyday American.

Surprisingly, Fox News’ The Kelly Files reported on this story correctly – a first for Faux News, but as expected, the report lacks substance:

This is how bad the same network has been:
