Ivanka Trump Cancels Interview When Reporter Asks About Daddy’s Sexist Comments

Ivanka Trump was giving an interview to Cosmopolitan magazine yesterday via telephone when she abruptly ended the call and refused to talk any further. The problem? The reporter dared to ask a question about some comments her father had made in which he called pregnancy “inconvenient” for business.

Ivanka, according to the magazine, said she was canceling the interview because:

“I think that you have a lot of negativity in these questions, and I think my father has put forth a very comprehensive and really revolutionary plan to deal with a lot of issues.”

The reporter, Prachi Gupta, had first asked if Trump’s child care plan, which he announced to much fanfare with his daughter at his side earlier this week, would also be applicable to same-sex couples. To that, Ivanka replied:

“The policy is fleshed out online, so you can go see all the elements of it. But the original intention of the plan is to help mothers in recovery in the immediate aftermath of childbirth.”

Fact-check time, which seems to always be a requirement when any member of the Trump family is speaking: The child care proposal, along with other policies Trump has been attempting to tout in a last-ditch effort to appeal to female voters, does not cover same-sex couples. Cosmo’s James Berney reports:

“Only mothers can apply for the unemployment insurance. Fathers are left out completely. But it isn’t just us heteronormative dads who aren’t covered. His plan makes no mention of LGBT relationships. Two dads adopting a kid? No leave for you. (In fact, the maternity leave policy doesn’t mention adoptive parents at all.) If a newborn has two moms, are they both eligible for unemployment insurance? What if, god forbid, a mother dies in childbirth? Can a single dad apply for leave to take care of his newborn child, or does his gender mean he’s out of luck? (Needless to say, the Republican nominee’s plan doesn’t address questions of transgender or nonbinary parents.)”

Gupta continued to press on the issue, telling Ms. Trump:

“I just want to be clear that, for same-sex adoption, where the two parents are both men, they would not be receiving special leave for that because they don’t need to recover or anything?”

Clearly defensive, Ivanka responded:

“Those are your words, not mine. Those are your words. The plan, right now, is focusing on mothers, whether they be in same-sex marriages or not.”

Translation: Ivanka Trump is a liar, just like her daddy. That apple did not fall far from the tree.
