If there is one person who best exemplifies the sheer brainless core of the Donald Trump for President campaign, it has to be spokesperson Katrina Pierson. No matter how often she goes on cable news and makes a complete jackass of herself, she keeps getting invited back and lowering the bar for intelligence whenever she does.
Yesterday, Pierson was on CNN being interviewed by Jake Tapper. Tapper asked about recent comments from Mike Pence. Pence had refused to label former KKK leader David Duke as “deplorable.” Democratic running mate Tim Kaine had commented that, “If you ignore something it gets worse” in response to Pence. So Pierson went off the ranch and declared:
“That’s exactly why we have ISIS today.”
Then she followed up with this bizarre statement:
“When someone who simply wants to secure the border is somehow a racist or a bigot. When someone wants to control our illegal immigration are labeled racists and bigots. People who want to stop ISIS from coming into their communities are called Islamophobic. These are hard-working American citizens…. To insult them is absolutely absurd.”
Tapper, clearly annoyed, informed Pierson:
“Katrina. No one has called people who don’t want ISIS to move into their neighborhood ‘Islamophobic.’ It has never happened. In the history of the world.”
That led Pierson to this:
“That is absolutely what they are talking about.”
Once more Tapper had to try and regain control of the interview, telling Pierson:
“No. People call people who hate Muslims ‘Islamophobic.’ They do not say that about people who don’t want ISIS to move in.”
Finally, the CNN host reminded Pierson that GOP Senator Mike Lee of Utah had also criticized Trump and Pence for failing to “identify David Duke’s racism as deplorable.” Tapper then added:
“That is not a liberal, That is Utah Senator Mike Lee, a Tea Party conservative, red Republican. He thinks your campaign and your candidates are not doing enough to condemn these racist views. Is Mike Lee wrong?”
Pierson hesitated before answering, as if she realized she had just been asked a question she wasn’t expecting, but managed to blurt out:
“And he’s also a never-Trumper who has never had anything nice to say about Mr. Trump. And, really, this entire interview and all of these interviews based around this one word deplorable is simply because the Trump campaign is simply not going to use Hillary Clinton’s terminology. That’s what we’re talking about.”
I’m willing to bet that when the interview was over with, Jake Tapper needed some painkillers for his headache. I know I sure did. Stupid liars tend to have that effect on me.
