WATCH: Creepy Speech By Governor Matt Bevins Threatens Bloodshed After Hillary Clinton Wins

There’s nothing quite like a Values Voters Summit to bring out the most unhinged of right wing crackpots and hypocrites. These “summits” are sponsored by RWNJ Tony Perkins and his Family Research Council (FRC). You might recall that the FRC is the organization that once boasted such esteemed “family values” employees as the infamous sister/child molester and Ashley Madison customer, Josh Duggar.

These events are typically a who’s who of ultra-religious goofballs, each tripping over themselves to claim the mantle of most patriotic, most “godly,” most scientifically illiterate, and most likely to believe the earth is only 6000 years old.

This past weekend’s summit was no different.

In a lineup that featured such high profile professional quacks as Kirk Cameron, Michele Bachmann, and Louis Gohmert, it was the speech by Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin that caused most rational people to reflexively slap their own foreheads.

For many of these so-called Christian right wingers, it’s as if their Bibles are just missing the parts where Jesus said, “blessed are the peacemakers” and “turn the other cheek.”  In a frightening bout of blood-lust and saber rattling, Bevin told the audience:

“If Hillary Clinton were to win the election, do you think it’s possible, would we ever be able to survive it, would we ever be able to recover as a nation? And while there are people who have stood on this stage and said we would not, I would beg to differ but I will tell you this.  I do think it would be possible but at what price? At what price?”

And for someone who likely believes Jesus walked around Jerusalem with an AK-47, he continued with his absurd warning:

“The roots of the tree of liberty are watered by what…the blood…of who…the tyrants to be sure but who else? The patriots. Whose blood will be shed? It may be those in this room. It might be that of our children.  Our grandchildren.”

R.L. Paine is a writer, activist, and science lover. We all need to find a bit more Hitch in ourselves. “Beware the irrational, however seductive. Shun the 'transcendent' and all who invite you to subordinate or annihilate yourself...Never be a spectator of unfairness or stupidity. Seek out argument and disputation for their own sake; the grave will supply plenty of time for silence...” - Christopher Hitchens
