WATCH: Rep. Louie Gohmert Sticks Up For Hillary: ‘Don’t Make Fun Of’ Her ‘Special Needs’

On Friday, United States Representative Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) continued pushing the bizarre Republican conspiracy theory that something is wrong with Democratic Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton’s health.

He spoke at the Value Voters Summit for over two minutes about it, framing it as an appeal to the Christian beliefs of his audience to stop mocking her because she has “special needs.”

Here is the bulk of his statement, to which the audience laughed throughout.

“Since most of us here are Christians, and, I’m serious about this: a true believer does what Jesus did and still does. But, you know, you don’t make fun of people who are impaired and have special needs, and, whether you like her or not, Hillary Clinton has made clear that she is mentally impaired. And this is not somebody you should be making fun of…”

He proceeds with a simpering giggle as the audience applauds. He then delves into the Alex Jones-level conspiracy theory realm about Clinton’s health.

“So, I get the impression that in law school and along the way she’s been very, very smart, but, I don’t know. Maybe it was the concussion, the fall back when she did, or, maybe, who knows? They won’t tell us what really is going on with her… We need to be praying for Hillary Clinton. There’s special needs there; there’s mental impairment.”

Gohmert has been elected to five terms in the House of Representatives.

Not only has his claim about Clinton’s health been refuted repeatedly, but his claim that we do not know what is going on with her is also absurd. Clinton’s physician released detailed medical records last summer. The records discuss Clinton’s concussion and what treatment was administered to respond to it.

At the very least, Clinton’s medical records are much more detailed and credible than Republican rival candidate, Donald Trump’s medical records.

Gohmert’s echoing of the indictment on Clinton’s mental health is particularly troubling.

It is more of the illegitimate and somewhat sexist attack on Clinton that she is somehow too weak and unstable to do an adequate job as President. It is a convenient out for the Republican Party to not have to attack her on a policy level, where she would clearly destroy the unprepared Republican candidate.

Gohmert closes his hilarious story with he following:

“That was not a proper thing to say because, again, I’m making fun of the mentally impaired, and that’s not right.”

At least he was right about one thing: we do need to pray for Hillary Clinton. Hopefully God hears us, because I do not like the alternative outcome.
