Here lately, Donald Trump has resorted to personal attacks on Hillary Clinton, saying on several occasions that she “doesn’t look presidential.” When asked to elaborate by David Muir of ABC News how exactly Clinton doesn’t look like a President, Trump remarked:
“I’m talking about in general.”
Sexist? Yes. Stupid? Yes, because it’s coming from Trump. Totally off the subject of the election? Again, yes, and again, it’s emanating from a blowhard who has no real policies, just slogans and hatred.
Ana Kasparian, one of the hosts of the Young Turks, got quite enough of Trump’s comments and said yesterday:
“Isn’t it kind of funny that a man whose face looks like a sphincter has the audacity to say Hillary Clinton doesn’t have a presidential look?”
Kasparian also said it bothers her that comments like the ones Trump makes don’t address the real issues which confront the country, but they wind up getting all of the media coverage:
“Part of the reason why is because Americans are sheep that buy into these ridiculous news stories. And part of the reason why they’re sheep is because we have mainstream media covering stupid-ass stories like this.”
This is a very fair commentary from Ana Kasparian, and I admit to being guilty of covering the personal remarks made by the candidates–the one-liners, the insults–but I’ve also tried to balance that with articles on issues such as the budget, social programs, and healthcare. Those articles don’t always garner a lot of clicks, but it is indeed essential that we make sure every voter is informed before he or she steps into that voting booth on Election Day.
