Celeste Guap Shipped Cross Country For Treatment And Jailed (VIDEO)

Celeste Guap is in a Florida prison facing felony charges of aggravated assault. Her bail was set for $300,000. The 19 year old is a survivor of human trafficking and child sexual exploitation. She was expected to testify against police officers who exploited her as a minor.

Celeste’s incarceration in Florida will be a set back in prosecuting those officers. The Oakland police department has known about the police misconduct and sexual exploitation since September 2015. Charges have yet to be filed against any of the estimated 31 officers involved across multiple counties.

The updates to Guap’s case leave us with more questions than answers.

Now that Guap is facing felony charges, she may not be able to leave the state until her case is resolved. Could this be orchestrated?

Guap was sent to rehab for heroin. She became addicted to the drug after officer O’Brien committed suicide. The same officer who “rescued” her from a pimp and began sleeping with her as a minor. Guap expressed that she felt guilt after his suicide.

Guap was sent to rehab in Florida. Why Florida? Was there not a suitable rehab for her to attend in California?

Guap was sent to rehab using the victims compensation funds. Guap’s mother stated that the Richmond police department paid for that rehab. Police officers from the Richmond police department are under investigation for exploiting Guap.

Guap’s mother stated that a deputy at the Martin County Jail called Guap, “a piece of shit.” Is Guap safe in jail? Can we expect the prison guards to act more honorably than 31 police officers who are suspected of sexually exploiting her?

Guap was arrested for biting a guard at her detox center. Healthcare workers deserve all possible protections available. I’m not disputing that there should be consequences for biting a guard.

But, aren’t the guards accustomed to sedating patients? Aren’t they accustomed to detoxing patients acting erratically? In this piece from CBS, Guap is pictured in an anti suicide garment. Could the young woman have been that dangerous or hard to control?

Is it standard procedure to have patients transferred from inpatient treatment to prison if they attack staff? Her bail was set for  $300,000. How dangerous is Guap? And to whom is she dangerous, the police?
