STUNNING: This 85-Year-Old Model Is Still Turning Heads! (TWEETS/VIDEO)

Carmen Dell’Orefice is a beautiful 85-year-old model and actress. She is the world’s oldest working model. She was on the cover of Vogue in October 1947 at the age of 16.

Her modelling income was not enough to support her family, though. She didn’t have a phone, so Vogue had to send runners to her apartment to inform her of the gigs. She roller-skated to and from gigs to save on bus fare.

She and her mother were seamstresses as well. They made some extra money sewing and designing clothes. In June 2011, she was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of the Arts in London on her 80th birthday. She said this about her career:

“I had a very respectable career but I didn’t have a specific look … I was a chameleon.”

“Fortunately, there was always somebody who knew I was good when I showed up, was responsible, not temperamental, and could do the job well. Today I am in a territory that business considers unmarketable: age and white hair. Slowly, however, I started to own that territory little by little because I stood up for age.”

Here is her advice for young people:

“Be less snotty. Accept you’re going to have to widen your scope of the jobs you’re willing to do. As a model, I represent a world of marketing and image… but life can’t always be glamorous—even for me. Everyone has to take jobs they don’t want… do things they think they can’t do. You just have to start somewhere. The sooner you accept that, the more successful you will be.”

This woman is an inspiration. I would be very lucky to have that kind of confidence when I reach that age. This just goes to show that you can follow your dreams at any age.

Here is an interview with her from last year:
