One of the main reasons I still watch MSNBC is Joy Reid. The others are Chris Hayes and Rachel Maddow. And once again today, Reid proved why she’s one of the best in the business.
Reid had Alfonso Aguilar, executive director of the Latino Partnership for Conservative Principles on her show, “AMJoy,” and Aguilar was trying (quite poorly) to defend racist tweets from Donald Trump, including retweets from white supremacists. Reid stopped Aguilar dead in his tracks by reminding him:
“He does control his own Twitter account, and he is retweeting white nationalists, Which, if you’re following them, they’re somehow in the stream of your social media.”
To that, Aguilar interjected:
“I think I could argue that is a double standard.”
Reid would have none of it, telling Aguilar:
“That is not a double standard.”
Aguilar then tried to shift the focus of the debate to Planned Parenthood:
“Margaret Sanger, let’s talk about Planned Parenthood.”
Joy was more than ready for Aguilar, saying:
“You’re mentioning a dead person, gone for many decades. Planned Parenthood is not a eugenicist organization. And I think that is incredibly offensive. Planned Parenthood is a health organization. Good gracious.”
But Aguilar couldn’t resist getting his lies out there:
“52 percent of all abortions are performed on Latino and African-Americans–”
He didn’t get to finish his lying, as Reid ended the interview with this perfectly placed line:
“Okay, I think that smear on Planned Parenthood cannot go forward and we are not going to continue with that line of questioning.”
BOOM! That’s how you shut down these right-wing asshats who want to go on cable news and spin their conspiracy theories and blatant untruths.
Joy Reid, you are freaking awesome! You are and will remain one of the best reasons to watch MSNBC. Thank you for not being afraid to call out a jerkweed like Alfonso Aguilar.
