Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump does not seem to understand proper social behavior.
Of course, this is nothing new for him and his campaign. He’s publicly offended nearly every minority group multiple times over the course of the year. But in this instance, his lack of nuance and empathy is just shocking.
After the death of Nykea Aldridge, the cousin of Chicago Bulls guard Dwayne Wade, Trump sent out a congratulatory tweet saying that African-Americans should vote for him. The tweet reads:
Dwyane Wade's cousin was just shot and killed walking her baby in Chicago. Just what I have been saying. African-Americans will VOTE TRUMP!

After witnessing the outrage to his insensitive tweet, it is no shock that an hour later he sent out a post offering his condolences to Dwayne Wade and his family.
Apparently his new handlers were able to knock some sense into him, and at least get him to send out a tweet acknowledging the sadness of the situation. His second attempt went like this:
My condolences to Dwyane Wade and his family, on the loss of Nykea Aldridge. They are in my thoughts and prayers.

While it is admirable that he was able to show a little bit of remorse for the situation, it is disturbing that Trump’s first instinct when something bad happens is to congratulate himself for supposedly being right about the situation.
He did this after the terrorist attacks in Nice, France, too.
The tweets he sent out offered no sympathy for the French people, and they only focused on the political ramifications of the attack. The tweets read:
Another horrific attack, this time in Nice, France. Many dead and injured. When will we learn? It is only getting worse.

Trump’s lack of empathy for African-Americans who deal with serious issues like gun violence on a daily basis is also evident by his proposed solutions to help fix the problem. Oh wait, that’s right, he has no proposed solutions or policies that would actually help to fix the problem.
Before the past few weeks, Trump hardly ever mentioned the problem of urban gun violence.
He certainly does not have any charitable contributions or involvement with organizations helping to alleviate the pressures weighing down African-American communities.
In fact, the only instance on record of Trump getting involved with a race-related issue was when he bought ads in New York newspapers calling for the death penalty of four young Black men, and one Latino male, all of whom were accused of raping a woman in Central Park.
The five men were later found to be innocent.
All of this just helps us prove the obvious. That Donald Trump does not truly care about the lives of African-Americans and only wants to use them in order to shrink his losses in the polls to Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.
Because any man who thinks that increasing the amount of law enforcement in urban areas without addressing the issues of systemic racism within the police force is missing the mark entirely.
It’s painfully clear based on his current barrage of tweets, speeches, and interviews that he does not understand and does not want to understand the real issues that are affecting the African-American community.
He does, however, want them to vote for him anyway.
