Palin Suggests ‘Erosion Of Support’ If Trump Continues To Flip-Flop On Immigration

It appears the marriage of political convenience made by Donald Trump and half-term quitter Alaska Governor Sarah Palin may be headed for a break-up since the Orange Menace has begun “softening” his position on the issue of immigration.

Twice yesterday–speaking to the Wall Street Journal and on Fox News–Palin suggested that Trump could be facing a “huge erosion of support” if he backs away from the idea of building a wall on the Southern border and not deporting 11 million people. Palin told the Journal:

“If Mr. Trump were to go down a path of wishy-washy positions taken on things that the core foundation of his support has so appreciated, and that is respecting our Constitution and respecting law and order in America, then yeah, there would be massive disappointment. Parts of that message we heard in the last week are clearly not consistent with the stringent position and message that supporters have received all along.”

A few hours later, Palin told Bill O’Reilly:

“Trump didn’t garner a lot of enthusiastic support by being soft on anything, but by having a still spine and doing what he knows a majority of Americans want. And that is to put a stop to illegal immigration.

“Donald Trump understands that enforcing the laws and building that wall are paramount to what the will of the people is – and thank God he’s still preaching that because if he were not, then there would be a huge erosion of support.”

Trump is still all over the place on the issue of immigration. Earlier this week he said at a town hall on Fox News that he was not planning to deport millions of people. Then last night he told CNN’s Anderson Cooper that he was not softening on his proposals, but was actually “hardening.”

No matter where Trump eventually decides to stand on this and hundreds of other issues vital to the country, one thing seems a safe bet: Give him give minutes and he’ll reverse himself again.
